- I had the 33.6kps Sporster and returned it. While it seemed to be a good
- data modem, it would not receive faxes reliably from machines that did
- not issue their CNG tone first due to, from what I understand, is the
- protocol standard instituted in the Sporster's firmware. I now have a
- Motorola Lifestyle 28.8 and have found it to be a comparable performer on
- the data side, but with none of the downsides of the Sporster on the fax
- side. In addition, in my experience to date, Motorola support has been
- great and professional--something I definitely did not experience with USR.
- The Lifestyle even looks finely made and I get 28.8 connects about 90% of
- the time--that's pretty satisfying. I like it and, for me, it has been a
- better choice than the Sporster. Just one opinion, though.
